Walt Disney Studios has announced that the animated feature GNOMEO & JULIET, which features the voice talents of James McAvoy, Emily Blunt, Michael Caine, Jason Statham and Ozzy Osbourne, will be available on Blu-ray May 24, 2011 in both a 2-disc combo pack for the 2D version and a 3-disc combo pack for the 3D version. The film follows the famous William Shakespeare play about the star-crossed lovers but with the main characters being garden gnomes who reside in different yards. The film also features songs from Sir Elton John.
I hear that the film is loosely based on the Shakespeare play which basically means there is no tragic ending and everyone lives happily ever after Disney-style. Kids and parents seemed to enjoy the film since it almost grossed $100 million world-wide, but I wonder what William Shakespeare would think of his most famous piece of work being taken down a level for kids, he may be rolling in his grave right now.
