Anne Hathaway is set to star in another modern adaptation of Taming of the Shrew

Anne Hathaway

Anne Hathaway is the toast of Hollywood right now.  After being the bright spot as Catwoman in THE DARK KNIGHT RISES and then turning in an Oscar-worthy supporting performance in LES MISERABLES, she’s once again reminded everyone how talented and versatile she is.  So it’s only natural that she would cash in on her recent success to go from heralded supporting actress to revered leading lady.  Of course, you could make the argument that she’s always been a leading lady, but I’m guessing her recent success will translate into box office success in the future.

Unfortunately, I can’t get too excited about the latest project she’s added to her list of upcoming films.  Reportedly, she’ll be starring in a modern retelling of William Shakespeare’s classic ‘Taming of the Shrew’.  Right now, there’s no director attached yet and all we know about the script from Abi Morgan (SHAME) is that it takes place in mid-20th Century Italy, which of course doesn’t narrow it down much.  Of course, the last time we saw a telling of Taming of the Shrew was 1999 with 10 THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU.  (The Wrap)
