Taylor Kitsch is taking on a giant white gorilla in this image from John Carter

I never knew about Edgar Rice Burroughs’ John Carter of Mars series. It wasn’t until the rumor of the film adaptation came up that I was made aware of it. Oddly enough there are only nine books instead of ten in the series.
The set up of the story is actually a very interesting one. A Civil War vet transplanted to Mars discovers a lush planet inhabited by 12-foot tall barbarians. Finding himself a prisoner of these creatures, he escapes, only to encounter a princess who is in desperate need of a savior. Definitely calls back to the beginnings of the sci-fi world especially since the first novel of the series was written in 1912.
Taylor Kitsch plays the titular JOHN CARTER character in the Andrew Stanton adaptation. Many who are faithful followers of the series are on both sides of the fence when it comes to the film. There’s high hopes for this one and the trailer didn’t reveal all too much. I’m looking forward to seeing how it translates since it under the Disney banner.
