Taylor Swift, Zac Efron and Betty White will lend voices to The Lorax

Illumination Entertainment will be doing a 3D animation film based on the Dr. Seuss book THE LORAX. The book is basically about the environment vs. industrialized society, but told in such a way for kids (I actually haven’t read this particular book so feel free to expand on it below). Zac Efron is set to voice Ted the young boy in search of The Lorax, Taylor Swift will voice Audrey, the girl of Ted’s dreams, Betty White will voice Ted’s grandmother, Ed Helms will voice the Once’ler and Danny DeVito will voice the Lorax. The film has a tentative release date of March 2012.

Even though Dr. Seuss wrote a lot of great childrens books, the transfer of books to film has not been so successful. I’m a little surprised that studios keep trying, but maybe they are keeping their fingers crossed that one of these will be a gem, or at least garner them a modest success at the box office.
