Ten superheroes that need another shot in movies

5. Black suit Spider-Man/Venom – A lot of my favorite storylines in the Spider-Man comics revolved around Peter Parker struggling with his black suit.  Ideally, we’d see more of Peter Parker with the black suit and then an entire movie where Venom is the only villain.  He deserved more than what he got in SPIDER-MAN 3.  Venom is good enough to be his own, main villain, not a sidekick.

Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool

4. Deadpool – I’m not really sure how a Deadpool movie would work without retelling his origins and ignoring his appearance in X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE.  Ryan Reynolds was fine in the role, but I’d prefer they re-cast this with someone else.  He could use his own film, but would need an introduction in a future X-Men film.  Traditionally, Deadpool wears a mask given his disfigurement, so we don’t need an A-lister here, just a good stuntman and a director that understands the story.

Anne Hathaway in The Dark Knight Rises featurette

3. Catwoman – Anne Hathaway was great as Catwoman and I think we’re finally ready to move on from the Halle Berry disaster several years ago.  Catwoman works better when she’s with Batman, but I could see Hathaway making the character work in a standalone film.

2. Gambit – Franchise killer himself, Taylor Kitsch, played Gambit in X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE, but his appearance was too small and didn’t work in the context of the film.  He wasn’t given a proper backstory and we got very little of what makes Gambit so likeable.  He’s a favorite of many that grew up watching the X-men cartoons and would make a great, regular addition to the X-Men films.

Daredevil

1. Daredevil – Daredevil was heartbreaking to me.  My favorite superhero growing up, Daredevil is probably the closest Marvel has to Batman in that he’s such a complicated, conflicted character that would work great on the big screen.  Unfortunately, Fox gave it to Mark Steven Johnson, who had no understanding of the character and that led to a hugely disappointing film.  I didn’t mind Affleck as Matt Murdock, but now that Marvel has this property again, I’d like to see them take their time and do this character justice.
