The Ten Worst Movies of 2013

The year is over and now that we’ve identified what we thought were the best movies of 2013 (read Nathan’s list and my list), it’s time to look at the opposite end of the spectrum.  For this list, we stayed away from straight to video movies and independent films that didn’t hit the mark.  Instead, we tried to focus on more mainstream films and maybe the hardest part was narrowing it down to only the ten worst movies.

Ethan Hawke, Selena Gomez in Getaway

10. GETAWAY – Although it’s true GETAWAY wasn’t the first film to primarily feature race/chase scenes, it might have been the first film to almost exclusively feature race/chase scenes.  That wouldn’t have been a bad thing, but the fact they were filmed so poorly and had zero intensity put a damper on the whole film.  The whole time I couldn’t decide what I wanted to stop more; the car or Selena Gomez from talking.

9. MORTAL INSTRUMENTS: CITY OF BONES – Another in a long line of films hoping to recapture the Twilight magic, The Mortal Instruments proved to be a disappointment.  So much teenage angst in a short amount of time and story that was hard to get into, The Mortal Instruments was just as bad as the Twilight films.

Saoirse Ronan in The Host

8. THE HOST – Saoirse Ronan has everything an actress needs to be an A-list star; she’s beautiful, talented, smart and easy to work with.  THE HOST was supposed to be her big blockbuster film, but once again, the poor writing of Stephanie Meyer couldn’t be turned into a decent movie.  Ronan will be just fine, but hopefully she’ll make better decisions in 2014.
