The Ten Worst Movies of 2013

7. GANGSTER SQUAD – I wanted to like this movie so bad. It was one of my most anticipated movies of 2012 and then it got pushed to 2013 after the Colorado theater shooting and I almost forgot about it. It turns out that the tragedy probably had zero impact on the film’s success since GANGSTER SQUAD was a mess to begin with.
6. MAN OF STEEL – This one might ruffle some feathers, but it belongs here. If you edited out all of the action in the film, MAN OF STEEL would have made my top ten of the year. But as soon as the action got going, it completely lost me with mindless destruction and uninspired direction. Unfortunately, that was half the movie.
5. BEAUTIFUL CREATURES – Maybe we’re suffering from YA overload as three movies in this worst ten list are YA adaptations. BEAUTIFUL CREATURES was bright and shiny, but had zero substance and featured some of the worst teenage angst of any of the YA adaptations not named Twilight.
4. R.I.P.D. – It has gotten so bad for Ryan Reynolds that I actually feel sorry for him. He’s a funny, charming guy, so why can’t he get a decent movie? I thought R.I.P.D. would be fun, but it was a complete mess. And Jeff Bridges – if you don’t want to do a movie, don’t do it.
