Terrence Malick’s Tree of Life, starring Brad Pitt and Jessica Chastain heading to Blu-ray in October

Whenever I talk to people that haven’t seen Terrence Malick’s TREE OF LIFE, I find it hard to convey proper feelings about the film.  I found it to be a fascinating film and it had a very emotional effect on me, but it’s such an unusual piece of filmmaking that it’s hard to recommend to general audiences.  So I guess my advice is; if you want to see a movie told in a way that has rarely been done, then you should check out TREE OF LIFE.  If you’re looking for a “regular” drama with a clear cut storyline and plot, then you should probably stay away from the film.  Oh, and you can pick it up on Blu-ray on October 11th.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like the 6 hour director’s cut of the film will be available this go around.  There were rumors swirling that Malick had this ultimate cut, but it doesn’t look like that cut will find a home on Blu-ray…yet.  I’m sure this will get the Criterion treatment (like DAYS OF HEAVEN and THE THIN RED LINE), but this release only has a 30-minute making of featurette.  The film stars Brad Pitt, Sean Penn and Jessica Chastain.
