The Avengers: Age of Ultron gets an explanation from Joss Whedon

Avengers Age of Ultron

For the most part, Comic-Con was pretty tame this year as far as announcements go.  But there was a busy couple of hours there on Saturday where DC and Marvel seemed to be playing a game of one-upmanship with their superhero movies.  But both companies left more questions than answers and one of the biggest questions from non-comic book fans regarding the sequel to THE AVENGERS is “who is Ultron?”  Comic fans might be wondering; does this mean Ant-Man is going to be in the sequel?  Well, Joss Whedon took some time to answer a few questions and this is what he had to say to heyuguys regarding Ant-Man’s appearance in THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON.

“A lot of people—because we called it Age of Ultron and there was a book, Age of Ultron just recently—assumed that was the storyline we are doing, which is not the case.  We’re doing our own version of the origin story of Ultron, the other thing is, in the origin story, there was Hank Pym [Ant-Man, who built Ultron in the comics].  So a lot of people assumed that he was going to be in the mix, but he’s not.  Because we’re basically taking the things from the comics for the movies that we need and can use.  A lot of stuff has to fall by the wayside. Ultron was their chief villain. He’s been the Avengers villain for so long. I was amazed anybody was surprised that it was going to be him in the movie. We are crafting our own version of it where his origin comes more directly from the Avengers we already know about.”

So there you have it straight from the man himself.  It looks like Ultron will be a worthy foe for The Avengers, but won’t necessarily follow the canon created in the comics.  It’s an exciting time to be a superhero movie fan and since THE AVENGERS AGE OF ULTRON will hit in 2015, we should be getting more announcements soon, including the status of Vin Diesel.
