The Blind Side Topples New Moon

Posted by: Brad Sturdivant

All of the fanboys that were scared NEW MOON would break all of the records set by THE DARK KNIGHT can rest easy this weekend.  NEW MOON showed it doesn’t have the staying power it takes to break too many records as it got beat out this weekend by a movie that opened on the same day, THE BLIND SIDE.  I find the case of THE BLIND SIDE to be curious since I wouldn’t have expected it to have such a broad appeal.  But women love Sandra Bullock and men love football, so I guess it makes sense.

New movies this weekend had a tough time with BROTHERS coming in at #3 and couldn’t even hit $10 million.  The horrible looking ARMORED opened in sixth place with less than $7 million.  EVERYBODY’S FINE rounded out the top ten with $5 million.

Next week sees two Oscar hopefuls, with THE LOVELY BONES and INVICTUS all trying to give Disney’s throwback picture THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG a run for its money.
