The Expendables holds off Vampires Suck at the box office

I’m surprised that VAMPIRES SUCK even managed to come close to the number one spot at the box office this weekend. I’m also surprised that the surprisingly good THE SWITCH only managed a measly $8 million, which was good enough for the 8th spot. That’s frustrating, and even NANNY MCPHEE RETURNS was able to beat it. Meanwhile, SCOTT PILGRIM VS THE WORLD continues to frustrate fanboys with it’s lackluster performance. I haven’t talked to anyone that didn’t like it, but people just aren’t showing up at the theater. And what about PIRANHA 3D? I wasn’t sure where that would fall in the box office lottery, but $10 million for such a campy movie isn’t bad.
Next week sees Drew Barrymore and Justin Long trying to make a long distance relationship work in the cutesy looking GOING THE DISTANCE. I’m not sure how that will fare either, but I’m thinking THE EXPENDABLES might make it three in a row.
1 The Expendables $16,500,000
2 Vampires Suck $12,200,000
3 Eat Pray Love $12,000,000
4 Lottery Ticket $11,125,000
5 The Other Guys $10,100,000
6 Piranha 3D $10,035,000
7 Nanny McPhee Returns $8,310,000
8 The Switch $8,100,000
9 Inception $7,655,000
10 Scott Pilgrim vs. the World $5,034,000
