The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is coming to 3D Blu-ray in March

History has a funny way of repeating itself.  Like they did with the original Lord of the Rings trilogy, one can only assume that New Line/Warner Bros. will double dip into THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY and release both a theatrical cut and an extended cut of the film.  Although in the case of The Hobbit, I’m not sure anyone really wants more footage.  Today Warner Bros. officially announced that the theatrical edition of THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY will arrive in both regular Blu-ray and 3D Blu-ray on March 19th.  The extras are pretty light, to say the least, with the glaring omission being a commentary from Peter Jackson.  I’m sure a lot of fans would want to hear why he did some of the things he did, but he’s probably saving it for the extended edition.  Special features only include: New Zealand: Home of Middle Earth featurette, 10 Video Blogs, Theatrical Trailers and Game Trailers.

Directed by Peter Jackson, THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY stars Martin Freeman, Andy Serkis, Hugo Weaving, Stephen Fry, Brett McKenzie, Orlando Bloom, Evangeline Lilly, Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, Ian Holm, Benedict Cumberbatch, Luke Evans and Cate Blanchett.
