The Host trailer: Saoirse Ronan stars in the Stephenie Meyer adaptation
As Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart continue to find out whether or not their Twilight fans will follow them to non-Twilight films, author Stephenie Meyer is probably eager to find out the same thing. Her first non-Twilight venture will debut next year and you can watch THE HOST trailer below. And before you get too excited, know that it’s really the definition of a teaser trailer and all we get is a slow close-up of Saoirse Ronan’s face, spliced in with random shots of people with weird eyes and very dramatic wording. And when I say dramatic, I mean it. It was so over the top that I couldn’t help but chuckle at how intense they were trying to make THE HOST trailer come off. I haven’t read Meyer’s The Host, but I can’t help but wonder if it has the same overly dramatic tone as this trailer.
Here’s a brief rundown of THE HOST by Stephenie Meyer: There is a group of alien life form that travel from planet to planet taking over the bodies of the inhabitants. When these life forms, called Souls, take over a body the host of the Soul fails to exist. When the Souls come to planet Earth, they find humans a great source for study and they place one of their most famous Souls in a human called Melanie. The Soul (called Wanderer) soon finds that not all humans are as easy to wipe out of existence as suspected and finds herself in a struggle with her own host. THE HOST is very much an invasion of the body snatcher type of story, but with a little more heart than you would think.
THE HOST stars Saoirse Ronan, Diane Kruger, William Hurt, Max Irons, Frances Fisher and Jake Abel. The Andrew Niccol directed film hits theaters on March 29th, 2013.
