The Hunger Games: Mockingjay will be written by Emmy winner Danny Strong
Every time I hear Danny Strong’s name mentioned, it’s always followed by “Emmy winner” or “Game Change” writer or even referred to as the writer of Lee Daniels’ upcoming drama THE BUTLER and Jay Roach’s RECOUNT. But I had never really paid attention when I saw him, just passing him off as another talented writer, destined to remain behind the scenes. Then I looked a little closer and I knew I remembered that face from somewhere. ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ fans will of course remember him as Jonathan from season 6’s “Evil Trio”. They were some of my favorite villains, in large part because of the humor Strong brought to the role. He’s also appeared in several episodes of ‘Mad Men’, but he’ll always be known as Jonathan to me.
I say all of that to say that he has been hired to write the two-part conclusion to The Hunger Games, entitled THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY. Up until this, he’s mainly written real life dramas based on facts, so this is his first foray into fiction. I’m sure he’ll do just fine and hopefully he’ll add some of that Buffy humor to the series. THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY PART 1 will hit theaters on November 21, 2014 and PART 2 will follow on November 20, 2015.
