The Karate Kid finishes first while The A-Team comes in second at the box office

I knew THE KARATE KID would be successful because the story is proven and there aren’t many quality, non-animated kid movies these days, but I was definitely not expecting $56 million.  Somewhere, Ralph Macchio is kicking himself.  I am surprised at the disappointing numbers for THE A-TEAM, I thought it was a really fun ride and I think a lot of people are missing out on a really good summer blockbuster.  SHREK: FOREVER AFTER finally fell out of the top spot and dropped to number 3 with $15 million.  Other than that, the rest of the rankings were similar to last week.

So next week sees the release of a little movie called TOY STORY 3, which is all but guaranteed to be the number 1 movie.  It also sees the release of JONAH HEX, which I’m afraid is destined to be this year’s biggest box office flop.  I think it would have done much better with an early fall or late winter release because the buzz on that film is almost zero.
