The Lion King 3D beats Moneyball, Killer Elite and Abduction at the box office

Seriously, America?  Last week you made THE LION KING 3D the #1 movie in America with a whopping $29 million and then you go back and make it the #1 movie again with another $22 million.  Unbelievable.  Everyone is fully aware that you can go to Wal-mart and buy this movie…right?  Anyway, the new movies this weekend just couldn’t compete with a 17 year-old movie, but MONEYBALL managed to do the best with about $21 million.  That was good enough to edge the obnoxiously wholesome DOLPHIN TALE, which followed in third place.  But if you were wondering how Twilight star Taylor Lautner did in his first movie on his own, the answer is; not good.  ABDUCTION struggled to find an audience (and a positive review from a critic) and could barely manage fourth place.  Finally, Jason Statham reminded us why most of his movies go straight to DVD as KILLER ELITE only grabbed fifth place.

Next week is a strange one as it features a handful of movies that studios don’t seem to know what to do with.  We first have the cancer comedy 50/50 with Seth Rogen and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, then we have DREAM HOUSE with Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz and the awful looking WHAT’S YOUR NUMBER with Anna Faris and Chris Evans.  I’m not sure any of those can compete with THE LION KING.
