Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper's The Silver Linings Playbook wins the TIFF People's Choice Award

The Silver Linings Playbook film review

While it’s true that films like CHARIOTS OF FIRE, AMERICAN BEAUTY, SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE and THE KING’S SPEECH went on to win Best Picture Oscars after winning the People’s Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival, I would hesitate to say that it gives any bankable indication that THE SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK should expect the same results.  There’s no doubt it’s a great sign for David O. Russell’s film, but the award has existed for 34 years and only 4 times has the winner gone on to win the Best Picture Academy Award.  For those doing the math at home, that’s less than 12% of the time.  With that said, winning the People’s Choice award is a great victory for the film and should at least get it some consideration come awards season.  Early buzz has been extremely positive all around, including for the performances of its leads, Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence.

Ben Affleck’s ARGO and Eran Riklis ZAYTOUN were runner’s up.  THE SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK stars Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Robert De Niro, Jacki Weaver, Julia Stiles, Anupam Kher, Chris Tucker, Shea Whigham and John Ortiz.  General audiences will get to see what all the fuss is about when the film hits theaters on November 21st.
