The Star Wars Blu-ray set becomes the fastest selling Blu-ray title of all time

So, fanboys, how’s that campaign to boycott the Star Wars Blu-ray set coming along?  In yet another example of how corporate America will always be able to take advantage of regular folk, the Star Wars Blu-ray set has become the fastest selling Blu-ray catalog title of all time.  The set has sold over one million units worldwide and  515,000 units in North America alone.  Priced roughly at $140 (although most outlets had them around $80), the sets have raked in $84 million worldwide and $34 million in North America.  That’s quite a haul for Blu-ray, which still hasn’t caught on to mainstream America as an accepted format.

So what does all of this mean?  Well, for starters, it’s good news for Blu-ray and will hopefully encourage more catalog titles to be released in the future.  It’s sad for those of us that want George Lucas to stop tinkering with the films, since this basically proves that he can do whatever he wants and fans will come out in droves to buy them.
