The Star Wars films are coming to theaters in 3D

Don’t look at me like that, I didn’t make the decision to release all of the STAR WARS films in 3D, I’m just here to let you know it’s going to happen.  In an overly exorbitant event, Lucasfilms announced that the STAR WARS films are coming back to theaters, this time in 3D.  But George Lucas pledges that this will not be the cheap, lame conversion ala CLASH OF THE TITANS, but this will be done properly.  THE PHANTOM MENACE will be the first film released and it’s coming in 2012.  Lucas said he was inspired by the technology used in AVATAR, but I’m guessing he was more inspired by the $700 million that AVATAR did domestically.

The standard jokes will follow this news, with people arguing that he’s doing this to make money and it’s just another way to milk the franchise for all it’s worth.  Both of those things are true, but my frustrating is that this will further delay Lucas from making another movie.  He said he wanted to make some smaller films and focus on something else after finishing REVENGE OF THE SITH, but all he’s done since that is more Star Wars stuff, whether it me via cartoon series or getting the live action TV show off the ground.  C’mon George; let’s see you do something other than Star Wars.
