Tim Burton officially directing Monsterpocalypse

MONSTERPOCALYPSE, for those that don’t know, is a board game about giant, skyscraper sized monsters that are left after an attack on earth and then humans build equally giant robots to combat them.  With a synopsis like that, there aren’t many directors better suited to tackle such an unusual project than Tim Burton.  Apparently, he felt the same way and according to producer Roy Lee, Burton is officially set to direct the monster vs. robot movie.  Of course, a movie like this will be shot in 3D and will be heavy on the special effects, so screenwriter John August shouldn’t have much dialogue to write.  The game was originally created by Matt Wilson, who will also be involved in the script.

I have to assume they’re going to make this a throwback to the old Godzilla/monster movies of yesteryear, in which case I can’t wait to see what Burton will do with it.  I just hope he doesn’t try to make it serious or dark.  This is a fun premise that needs to go over the top.
