Tom Cruise and Christopher McQuarrie are officially reteaming for Mission Impossible 5
When it was first announced that Tom Cruise had officially signed on for MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 5, everyone immediately assumed that Christopher McQuarrie would get involved with the sequel at some point, whether it be as a screenwriter or as director. Well, today McQuarrie took to his Twitter account with the simple post “Mission Accepted”, indicating he will be helming the fifth Mission Impossible film. This is perhaps the worst kept secret in Hollywood, but it’s a nice confirmation that McQuarrie is on board to, presumably, write and direct the film.
Of course, this leads to a slew of other questions, most notably what direction they’re going to take the ever-changing franchise. The fourth film was a pure action, adrenaline-fueled adventure, but McQuarrie is more known for character driven, plot focused films like his recent collaborations with Tom Cruise, VALKYRIE and JACK REACHER. I’m also curious as to whether or not we’re going to see Jeremy Renner return to the series. I don’t think he was quite the presence Paramount thought he was going to be when they tabbed him to take over the franchise. Production on MI5 should start soon. (Twitter)
