Tom Cruise and Olga Kurylenko star in the first Oblivion trailer

Tom Cruise in Oblivion

Even the most jaded movie fans have to admit that a Tom Cruise led movie is usually a safe bet.  Sure, there are some LIONS FOR LAMBS and KNIGHT AND DAYs out there, but most of the actor’s resume is pretty impressive.  So I can’t help but be excited about Tom Cruise starring in a new, original science-fiction film that will have him playing a drone repairman in the distant future, set in a time where the earth has been devastated by a war between humans and aliens.  While on earth, he encounters a resistance group led by Morgan Freeman and a mysterious woman (Olga Kurylenko) that make him question everything he thought he knew.  I’m of the belief that there’s not enough original science fiction in Hollywood these days, so I’m anxious to see what writer/director Joseph Kosinski (TRON: LEGACY) is going to be able to pull off.

You can watch the first trailer below and I’m impressed by the initial look.  I does have a bit of WALL-E in it, but the visuals look amazing and it feels like the story is going to be complex enough to satisfy science-fiction fans.  OBLIVION stars Tom Cruise, Morgan Freeman, Olga Kurylenko, Zoe Bell, Melissa Leo, Andrea Riseborough, James Rawlings and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau.  The Joseph Koskinski directed film hits theaters everywhere on April 19th, 2013.
