Tom Cruise is set to star in the Sci-Fi film Yukikaze

Tom Cruise

Based on a series of Japanese sci-fi novels by Chohel Kamayashi, YUKIKAZE is being adapted by Warner Bros., who has just signed on mega star Tom Cruise as the lead.  Yukikaze takes place during the early 21st Century where an alien force, using a dimensional porthole, has invaded and inhabited earth the past thirty years.  However, humans are once again on the rise, putting together a special combat force to win back their planet.  In case you were wondering, Yukikaze is the name of the hero’s reconnaissance fighter plane.

With OBLIVION opening in theaters this Friday and ALL YOU NEED IS KILL opening in 2014, Tom Cruise is on a current string of science fiction films.  I would guess, because Yukikaze is based on a Japanese series that it could easily be turned into another Tom Cruise franchise.  But that’s just speculation.  If you want to get a head start on the story, you can find the popular novels adapted into to five anime films. So now the question is, who is going to direct this surefire blockbuster? (Deadline)
