Tom Hanks, Halle Berry and Hugh Grant look intense in new images from Cloud Atlas
Every year there seems to be at least one film that divides critics and audiences alike. Last year, it was THE TREE OF LIFE. This year, I think that movie is going to be CLOUD ATLAS. The story is virtually impossible to describe, but it spans generations and focuses on two souls that are always drawn to one another. The film is based on the popular novel by David Mitchell and to say that adapting it to the big screen is an ambitious undertaking would be an understatement. But if the first trailer is any indication, they’ve at least come close to capturing the epic and complex nature of Mitchell’s work. But how that will translate to commercial or critical success remains to be seen. I actually started reading the book a couple of weeks ago and even though I’m normally a wait-for-the-movie kind of guy, I think this is one that I’m going to be glad I’m familiar with the novel before I sit down to watch the film.
Directed by Tom Tykwer, Andy Wachowski and Lana Wachowski, CLOUD ATLAS stars: Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Hugh Grant, Jim Broadbent, Hugo Weaving, Jim Sturgess, Doona Bae, Ben Whishaw and James D’Arcy. It’s set to open in theaters on October 26th, 2012.
