Tom Hardy is getting ready to play Al Capone in Cicero for Harry Potter director David Yates

Tom Hardy

First rumored over the summer, no one was really sure that David Yates’ (the last few Harry Potter films) planned gangster trilogy CICERO was actually going to happen.  From the beginning, Yates and Warner Bros. have eyed Tom Hardy as their choice to take on the lead role of Al Capone, but no one signed on and the project hasn’t been discussed publicly in several months.  But while talking with The Daily Mail, Tom Hardy revealed that he’s watching old gangster films starring James Cagney and Humphrey Bogart to get a feel for how he wants to play Capone in the film.  Said Hardy: “The idea isn’t to remake those films but to get a flavour of them as we explore Capone’s career as a racketeer, the idea at the moment is of doing a trilogy of films, but nothing is set. Everyone is just talking and exploring.”

That goes in line with what we heard over the summer; that Yates was eying CICERO as a trilogy that would track Capone’s rise to gangster glory and subsequent fall.  If this all works out, it will definitely be one of the most anticipated films of whatever year it comes out.  At this point, I’ll go see anything Tom Hardy is in, even though THIS MEANS WAR is challenging that sentiment…
