Tom Wilkinson could join Gore Verbinski's The Lone Ranger

After stalling for awhile, speed has finally picked up on the big screen version of THE LONE RANGER.

Johnny Depp has been attached since the beginning with his PIRATES OF THE CARRIBEAN director Gore Vervinski at the helm. Recently, Armie Hammer (THE SOCIAL NETWORK) signed on to play the lone ranger himself.

Tom Wilkinson is the next possible cast member for the film. The role the actor is up for is a railroad tycoon who has a prominent role in the film’s plot. Is this a good guy or a bad guy? Railroad tycoon? That doesn’t sound very friendly. No other details were given on the role. Wilkinson was last seen in the mini-series THE KENNEDYS.

The script was written by PIRATES scribes Ted Elliot and Terry Rossio. The film is scheduled for release on December 21, 2012 and will start shooting as soon as Johnny Depp is finished with DARK SHADOWS.
