Ten Christmas movies you should watch every year

5. IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFEOne of my all-time favorite movies, but the long running time keeps its re-watchability factor out of the the top spots. Jimmy Stewart’s George Bailey is irresistibly likable for nothing else than providing the world with terrible impressionists (including myself).

Home Alone

4. HOME ALONE – Seriously, Kevin’s family is pretty horrible at the beginning. His brother Buzz eating his specialty cheese pizza, getting called a disease and incompetent (what the French call les incompetents), he has to sleep with wet the bed Fuller chugging down a Pepsi, and even Uncle Frank calling him out with my personal favorite, “Look what you did you little jerk.” It’s no wonder the kid wished his family gone.

3. MIRICLE ON 34TH STREET (1947 & 1994) – Either version is fine by me. Well, actually I much prefer the original. There is something pure and delightful about the older version but the more modernized one with color is an adequate backup and might be easier for today’s kids to digest. Do kids even write letters on paper anymore?

Christmas Vacation

2. CHRISTMAS VACATION – I’m sure many (including my wife) would argue this should be number one. Chevy Chase as Clark Griswold is at his comedic family man best when dealing with Cousin Eddie and the rest of the clan during the holidays. His mixture of loving and loathing is perfectiion. “Can I refill your eggnog for you? Get you something to eat? Drive you out to the middle of nowhere and leave you for dead?”

Peter Billingsley in A Christmas Story

1. A CHRISTMAS STORY – This is my holiday jam! I love that TBS does a 24-hour running of A CHRISTMAS STORY on Christmas day. So many repeatable line so many re-watchable scenes. I’ll gladly watch it back to back to back. If I wasn’t able to see it during the holiday season, I would probably say, “Ohhhhh Fuuuuudddggge.” Now don’t bother me, I’m thinking.
