The top ten movies to look forward to in 2014

With 2013 behind us, it’s time to take a look at 2014 to see what Hollywood has in store for us.  As I was perusing through the long list of movies coming in 2014, I realized I’m not as excited for 2014 as I was for 2013 or as I will be for 2015.  That doesn’t mean I’m predicting 2014 to be a down year for movies, it just means that I’m predicting it will be filled with some lesser-hyped movies than what we’ve come to expect.  It seems most studios are dumping all of their tent pole films in 2015, but that doesn’t mean we won’t get some gems in 2014.  Below are the top ten movies we’re looking forward to in 2014.

Guardians of the Galaxy

10. GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY – I know nothing about the comic, but I do know I like Chris Pratt and I know I’m interested to see how Marvel handles something so far outside what they’ve done to date.  If I had to pick a movie that is going to be better than expected and surpass expectations in 2014, it would be GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY.

9. THE RAID 2 – REDEMPTION is the new standard for high intensity martial arts films with incredible fight scenes.  Sure, the plot was basic, but I had to take a two hour nap after the original because I was exhausted for Rama.  The sequel looks like it works harder on the plot, but as long as that doesn’t get in the way of some great fight scenes, I’ll be okay with it.

Tom Cruise in Edge of Tomorrow trailer

8. EDGE OF TOMORROW – I liked OBLIVION, but not as much as I was hoping.  But after the first trailer for Doug Liman’s Groundhog Day sci-fi tale, I’m fully on board with EDGE OF TOMORROW.  Tom Cruise is one of the most reliable actors in Hollywood, so I’m anxious to see what he and Liman have in store for us.
