The top ten movies still to come in 2013
3. THE WOLF OF WALL STREET – Whenever Martin Scorsese makes a film, it’s worth taking notice. Paired up with his favorite muse in the always exceptional Leonardo DiCaprio, THE WOLF OF WALL STREET is sure to be an interesting look at the rise and fall of the famous stockbroker Jordan Belfort. (Nov. 15)
2. AMERICAN HUSTLE – Last year, David O. Russell brought us one of my favorite films in SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK. He’s teamed up some of his best casting yet with Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper, Christian Bale, Amy Adams and Robert De Niro for a very authentic look at the life of some prominent cons in the 1970’s. (Dec. 18)
1. THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE – I’m sure I’ll ultimately like other movies on this list more but right now I don’t know which. But I do feel very confident that I will thoroughly enjoy the second installment of THE HUNGER GAMES. The beloved book series that finds lower class children pitted against each other to the death for the amusement of the upper class is rich with society, political and media undertones while being wildly entertaining. I have found THE HUNGER GAMES an easily rewatchable film and I look forward to add to the enjoyment. (Nov. 22)
Notable Misses
THOR: THE DARK WORLD – The first THOR was just OK and to be honest, I don’t have high expectations for this next one. But I love the world of The Avengers and Chris Hemsworth is a powerhouse of charisma who is always worth checking out on screen. (Nov. 8)
THE HOBBIT: THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG – I was sorely disappointed in THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY not for the story or character of course, but because of the production. Nothing looked as authentic or real as it did for LORD OF THE RINGS. So knowing that the production will be the same, I doubt I will be able to get into this one. But I’m sure the rest of you are excited. (Dec. 13)
