Topher Grace and Mary Elizabeth Winstead star in Toshiba's interactive Facebook movie The Beauty Inside
We’ve already entered a new age of filmmaking, but to be honest, no one has really effectively used Facebook to create a movie, but rather most filmmakers use Facebook to promote a movie after it’s finished. Well, Toshiba has teamed up with Drake Doremus (who directed last year’s LIKE CRAZY) to introduce a new twist to marketing and filmmaking. The project is called THE BEAUTY INSIDE and revolves around a person named Alex, who finds himself waking up as a different person every day. He’s still the same person inside, but his outward appearance changes drastically and constantly, which makes every aspect of his life difficult to say the least. To guide him on his journey, he uses the new Toshiba Protege Ultrabook to chronicle his ever changing appearance.
The cool thing about the project is that if you visit the site’s Facebook page (click the link to check it out), you can actually audition to play the role of Alex. On the page, you can also interact with Alex as he makes his way through the world. The first episode will be available August 16th and will continue weekly for six weeks. It’s ambitious, for sure, but from the brief trailer, I have to admit I’m hooked.
Check out the video below, which actually looks pretty great. Topher Grace is supplying the narration, although he doesn’t actually appear in the film. From what I can gather, Mary Elizabeth Winstead is the love interest, which obviously gets complicated with Alex’s changing appearance. The music is ‘Let’s Fall Asleep Together’ by Teen Daze, which will probably find its way to your iPod sooner than later.
