Transformers: Dark of the Moon breaks box office records with the biggest Fourth of July weekend ever

Love him or hate him, there’s not denying the box office power of Michael Bay. In the process of making a movie he didn’t really want to make and using 3D technology he didn’t really want to use, his latest film, TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON now officially has the most successful Fourth of July weekend opening in movie history with $97.5 million over three days, besting the previous record of SPIDER-MAN 2, which had $88 million. True, TF3 had the luxury of higher 3D ticket prices, but it’s still an impressive feat for the third film in the franchise. But comparing it to the all time films, it has the ninth highest 6 day total ever with $175.6 million. But even with all the records and the impressive haul, it still trails TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN, which totaled $214.9 million in six days.
But as well as it’s doing domestically, it’s doing even better internationally, where 3D tends to perform a little better. Since its Wednesday opening, the film has grossed $416 million in just six days. Wow. So now the question is; how much longer until we see a Transformers reboot?
