True Blood's Alexander Skarsgård my don a loin cloth for Tarzan film

Alexander Skarsgard

So a couple of films based on the ape-raised, tree-swinging character Tarzan are in the works and now we’re finding out one of them may have a frontrunner (the other has already been cast). Looks like HBO’s True Blood star Alexander Skarsgård is in the lead to play Tarzan and has landed the part over other actors like Henry Cavill, Charlie Hunnam and Tom Hardy, all of who were eyed for the lead. If Skarsgård does take the role (he’s still in talks) he would play John Clayton III, who after being rehabilitated to live among the humans is asked by Queen Victoria to go back into the jungle to look into some strange occurrences. Tarzan would travel down to the jungle with a veteran named George Washington Williams, a role that Samuel L. Jackson is currently circling. Since this particular Tarzan film is still in the early changes, don’t be surprised if casting changes again.

In case you missed it, the other Tarzan film in production stars Kellan Lutz (of TWILIGHT fame) as the man raised by animals, and he will be joined by Spencer Locke (RESIDENT EVIL: AFTERLIFE). Neither of these Tarzan films have official titles right now so bear with us as it may get a little confusing. (Variety)
