Vin Diesel wants your opinion about another Riddick movie

Posted by: Brad Sturdivant

The third Riddick film has been on the table for years, even after the second film was disappointing, both at the box office and to fans.  But Vin Diesel has always professed a love for the franchise and a desire to go back and revisit it.  But given all the problems with getting the third film off the ground, he’s now having second thoughts (especially about taking a pay cut) and wants your opinion.  So he took to his FaceBook page and posted this:  “[David Twohy] the writer/director just landed in New York with the good news. We can start filming this summer. However, there is a catch…in order for us to make a true R-rated film, I must work for scale upfront. Not unlike the Find me Guilty experience (which I wouldn’t have changed for the world). Money is always second to art, integrity and spirit…but the real issue is deeper. Can I suspend my life, to momentarily venture to that dark place…called Riddick. Now, I need to hear from Our collective…you.”

I’ll skip over the “problem” of taking a pay cut and will answer his question; it depends.  I didn’t like THE CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK because it was an over-hyped, CGI snore fest with poor direction.  I know those in the sci-fi community liked it, but it was a far cry from the original PITCH BLACK, which was good because of its intensity and simplicity.  So if he and director David Twohy want to go back and do something simple with Riddick, I’m all for it.  Otherwise, let it be.
