Vin Diesel's Fast and Furious franchise will continue on as heist films

Back in 2001 when the film THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS came into theaters is was much appreciated by both fans of cars and fans of fun films in general. There were some great chase scenes, a quick plot and characters that were memorable and exciting to watch. As the decade progressed so did the franchise, with some of the old characters mixed in with some new. The films started to get a bit cheesy but held true to the fact that the cars were a major part of the film…until now. This weekend FAST FIVE will hit theaters and fans may be in for a bit of a surprise as this movie will move the films in a new direction. Gone will be the days of low riding cars with loud exhaust drag racing for a pink slip and in its place will be a heist film with the chase scenes worked into the story. Even though this hasn’t been the official statement from the studios, it appears to be going in this direction as budgets are being raised and characters are developing into more than just motor-heads. None of the cast members have signed on to a sequel just yet (just in case this film tanks I’m assuming) but we did already report that Vin Diesel and Neal Mortiz were working on a sixth installment so we’ll just have to wait and see.

FAST FIVE opens on April 29, 2011 and stars Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Paul Walker, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson and Ludacris.
