Warner Brothers moving forward with Green Lantern 2

When it was first announced that GREEN LANTERN was going to be made into a feature film, there were rumors that the original idea was structured like a trilogy and that Warner Brothers had some grand plans for the franchise. But that was then and this is now and today we know that fans didn’t react kindly to GREEN LANTERN. After the film reportedly cost $300 million, it’s a bit of a surprise that WB would be sticking to their guns with a GREEN LANTERN 2 and even more surprising that they would consider filming parts 2 and 3 back to back. But after retaining screenwriter Michael Goldenberg from the original, it seems WB is moving forward with a sequel. Stars Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively and Mark Strong are all signed on for a sequel, if it actually happens.
GREEN LANTERN is the movie of the summer that’s cool to hate, but it wasn’t nearly as bad as some would have you believe. With that said, I think going forward with a sequel is a risky proposition, but if they can keep the budget to $100 million or less, then it should be a nice profit. Plus, the movie will do well on VOD and Blu-ray, so it will eventually make a profit. But if they really want the sequel to do well, they should call in Christopher Nolan and let him work his magic. They’ve given him Batman and Superman already, they might as well give him the entire Justice League.
