WB sets dates for Wonder Woman, The Flash, Justice League 2 and more

After Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy wrapped, I was curious to see where Warner Bros. were going to take their superhero universe. Not long after THE DARK KNIGHT RISES wrapped its theatrical run, we got news that Batman and Superman were going to team up in BATMAN VS SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE. I don’t mind the idea of the two biggest DC superheroes teaming up, but I started getting skeptical when we got word that other superheroes were going to be joining them, including Wonder Woman and Aquaman and the rumored appearances of numerous other heroes. The thing that made Marvel’s plans so successful was that they established their heroes first, then made THE AVENGERS a giant team-up movie. DC is going the opposite route and it remains to be seen if they’ll be able to pull it off.But the big news today is that they’ve officially set dates for several standalone films, including Wonder Woman, Aquaman, The Flash and others.

The other big news is that Ezra Miller (THE PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER, WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN) has been cast as THE FLASH in his standalone film. An interesting choice, for sure, but until we know who’s directing and what direction they’re going to take the film, it’s tough to judge the casting. I would also presume this means The Flash will appear somewhere in BATMAN VS SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE. The other interesting thing to note is that the JUSTICE LEAGUE film looks like it will be split up into two parts, but the movies are over a year and a half away from each other. That’s going to be a long wait to see how the film ends and also a risky gamble for DC if the first part doesn’t live up to expectations.
