Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis go head-to-head in the trailer for The Campaign

Zach Galifianakis and Will Ferrell in The Campaign

With another presidential election year upon us in the United States, it’s only natural that spoofs will come about. Usually they are relegated to Saturday Night Live, but this year we’ll actually get a full length film entitled THE CAMPAIGN (formerly called DOGFIGHT) from director Jay Roach starring Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis. At least this will be more entertaining to watch than the real election.

THE CAMPAIGN follows Cam Brady (Will Ferrell), a North Carolina politician who has won the political race every time he’s entered due to lack of opponent. Step in Marty Huggins (Zach Galifianakis), a newcomer to the political game who takes on the seasoned politician as they both go on the campaign trail seeking votes. Alongside Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis, THE CAMPAIGN stars: Jason Sudeikis, Sarah Baker, Dylan McDermott, Katherine LaNasa, Brian Cox, John Lithgow, Dan Aykroyd and Scott A. Martin. THE CAMPAIGN hits theaters on August 10, 2012.

I love Will Ferrell in just about everything he does so I’ll have to watch this, especially since he accidently punches a baby. Punching babies isn’t funny, yet when it happened in this trailer I laughed. I’m sure Will Ferrell will have to carry this film along with Jason Sudeikis because Zach Galifianakis’ character, Marty, just looks and sounds too annoying for his own good. I have yet to watch a film where I enjoyed one of Galifianakis’ performances and I’m glad he’s usually relegated to a supporting character. In case you missed it, there are virtual campaigns being run for you to vote for your favorite candidate. I’m sure the film will end in a tie, but it’ll be interesting to see who will win the public vote: Cam Brady or Marty Huggins. I know who I would vote for- Will Ferrell as Cam Brady of course. Watch the trailer for THE CAMPAIGN below.
