Will Ferrell, Steve Carell and Paul Rudd are all set to return for Anchorman 2
Will Ferrell’s ANCHORMAN: THE LEGEND OF RON BURGANDY has its legions of fans. When the film came out in 2004, it seemed that every line in the movie was being quoted by anyone under the age of 30. And since 2004, fans have been clamoring for Will Ferrell to return for ANCHORMAN 2, which has gone through a series of will it or won’t it moments. Just a few weeks ago, Will Ferrell made a comment that the long awaited sequel was on hold and that there were no plans to move forward. Well, maybe Ron Burgandy was doing a little posturing because it was just announced that ANCHORMAN 2 has been greenlit by Paramount.
Of course, the announcement was just made and there’s no word on what the sequel will be about, but we do know that Ron Burgandy (Will Ferrell), Brick Tamland (Steve Carell) and Brian Fantana (Paul Rudd) will all be returning for a series of misadventures. At one point, director Adam McKay had talked about doing a musical and even running the musical on Broadway, but that was a couple of years ago and might have also been the reason Paramount initially balked at the idea of a sequel. I’m not sure the idea of Will Ferrell singing for two hours was as appealing as McKay thought it was.
This may sound like sacrilege, but ANCHORMAN is not one of my favorites. In fact, I was left dumbfounded why so many people thought it was so incredibly funny. I appreciated the humor of the idea of having Will Ferrell basically exaggerate every character he’s ever played, but as a whole, it didn’t work for me. Hopefully, with ANCHORMAN 2, they’ll improve on what they started. No word yet on start date. (Deadline) Watch Will Ferrell make the announcement on the Conan show below.
