Winona Ryder, Martin Short and Martin Landau join Tim Burton's Frankenweenie

Tim Burton has found his voice cast for FRANKENWEENIE by calling on some of his old pals. Winona Ryder (EDWARD SCISSORHANDS, BEETLE JUICE) will play Elsa. Martin Landau (ED WOOD for which he won an Oscar) will play Mr. Rzykruski. Catherine O’Hara (BEETLE JUICE, A NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS) will play Edgar, Weird Girl, Victor’s Mom and Gym Teacher. Finally, Martin Short (MARS ATTACKS!) will play Bob, Nassor, Toshiaki, Victor’s Dad and Mr. Bergermeister.
I think Tim Burton is pretty great but I think that’s due mostly to his earlier work. Well FRANKENWEENIE is just that. It’s basically an odd family Frankenstein movie using a dog with a bit of PET SEMETARY and RE-ANIMATOR thrown in. Burton’s 1984 short was terrific so here’s hoping the new stop motion animated Disney feature can match up. FRANKENWEENIE is set for release March 9, 2012.
