Writers begin work on Captain America 2

Before the summer began, there was talk about how all the studios were already eager to move forward with sequels to their summer comic book movies.  But now that most of the films have already debuted, I’m guessing the chances of a THOR 2, X-MEN: FIRST CLASS 2 (although I hope this one happens) and a GREEN LANTERN 2 are all still possibilities, but not what I would consider likely.  So early news about a CAPTAIN AMERICA 2 seem premature at best.  I’m as excited about it as the next guy, but let’s make sure director Joe Johnston can pull it off before we sign up writers for a sequel.

But Marvel doesn’t share my cautious attitude and have already signed up Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus to pen the sequel.  They were talking about the first movie and dropped the hint that the second film would be set in present day, which is exactly what star Chris Evans said a few months ago.  McFeely also said that there were going to be plenty of opportunities for flashbacks and that they haven’t decided on a villain yet.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER stars Chris Evans, Hayley Atwell, Tommy Lee Jones, Sebastian Stan, Dominic Cooper and Hugo Weaving.  The film hits theaters everywhere on July 22nd.
