Zac Efron, Matthew McConaughey, Tobey Maguire and Sofia Vergara join The Paperboy

Lee Daniels received much warranted praise after his debut film PRECIOUS, but has found getting a follow-up off the ground to be rather challenging.  It seems the director has been attached to several films since the release of PRECIOUS, but hasn’t managed to get any of them made.  But Cannes is a wonderful time to sell a film, or even an idea for that matter, and now it looks like Lee Daniels will finally get his follow-up film.  The director is set to direct Zac Efron, Matthew McConaughey, Tobey Maguire and Sofia Vergara in the drama about a journalist that returns to his Florida hometown to investigate the wrongful imprisonment of a cop-killer.

But of course, there’s much, much more to the story than that.  The film is based off the book of the same name by Peter Dexter.  At one time, Pedro Almodovar was going to make this his English language debut, with Bradley Cooper and Alex Pettyfer set to star.  Since I haven’t read the book, the only thing that has me excited about this is the fact that Almodovar was once attached to it.  For me, that means there’s a lot more to this story and I’m sure it takes a few dark turns along the way.
