Zac Efron, Nicole Kidman and Matthew McConaughey in new photos from The Paperboy

One of the more starred studded films being screened at the Cannes Film Festival may be the Lee Daniels’ film THE PAPERBOY. The film stars: Zac Efron, Nicole Kidman, Matthew McConaughey, John Cusack and David Oyelowo. Below we have some very interesting images that give us a look at a more slutty side of Nicole Kidman, a creepy killer-esque John Cusack and Matthew McConaughey in an eye patch. Zac Efron is of course in these photos as well, and this may be quite a different role from him then what we’ve seen in the past. Zac Efron’s career always seems right at the cusp of something big, but never quite goes all the way like say Jennifer Lawrence’s career.
THE PAPERBOY is based on the novel of the same name by Pete Dexter. The story follows a journalist named Ward James (Matthew McConaughey) and his younger college-dropout brother Jack (Zac Efron) who are investigating a potential wrongful conviction of a death row inmate (John Cusack) who was accused of killing a sheriff. Nicole Kidman’s character is the one who brings the story to the attention of the journalists, as she is a woman who writes letters to the death row inmates. There is no release date right now, but as mentioned before this film will be at the Cannes Film Festival next month.
This looks like an interesting film, but I’m really curious to see if it’ll do anything for young Zac Efron. Zac Efron has been around for years now, but it doesn’t seem like he has put forth a strong enough performance to give his career a boost. Hopefully acting alongside Kidman and Cusack will help young Zac Efron’s cause and give him more opportunities. Oh, and how could I forget to mention that it’ll be interesting to see if McConaughey manages to get a scene with his shirt off, because he almost always does in any film he’s in (not that I’m complaining).
