Zac Efron replaces Shia LaBeouf in The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman

A long time ago (April 2010 to be exact) we reported that Shia LaBeouf was set to star in the comedy/action film THE NECESSARY DEATH OF CHARLIE COUNTRYMAN, and then we didn’t hear about the film again. Today we learn that Zac Efron has taken over the lead in a film that follows a guy after the death of his mother. He goes to Europe where he meets a beautiful girl who has already been “claimed” by a mob boss. Charlie (Efron) endures multiple beatings to keep her out of harms way while wooing her. The script was written by Matt Drake but no director is set for the film even though Mandate Pictures wants to start shooting sometime this year.
This seems like a different role for Efron who is still known for his good boy image. Since this film has been compared to PULP FICTION, we may see Efron flex some acting muscles we have yet to see.
