Zac Efron to star in the spy-thriller Fire, eyes science-fiction role

Everyone’s favorite teen heartthrob, Zac Efron has lined up a couple of projects that will help him break out of that High School Musical stigma. The advantage for him is that most of his new audience (adults) never saw him in the musicals, so we have no association. But his new projects sound pretty interesting.
The first is based off the graphic novel FIRE in which Efron plays a kid recruited in college by the CIA, only to find out he’s part of a program to create expendable agents. Zac Efron toting a gun and beating up bad guys? I guess if Matt Damon can pull it off convincingly, there’s no reason Efron can’t convince the world he’s a tough guy.
The second project is more vague and less intriguing. It’s described as a “Back to the Future”-esque movie, combining a couple different scripts from current projects, including ALGORITHM. Just saying “Back to the Future”-esque turns me off instantly, especially since I thought 17 AGAIN kind of borrowed scenes from the original film. But I’ll reserve judgment until I see a trailer.
