Anaconda 2025 Movie Review
ANACONDA 2025 is a PG-13 comedy thriller starring Jack Black and Paul Rudd as best friends who want to remake the 1997 ANACONDA. For me, that set up alone is worth checking out the film. If you are unaware, the 1997 ANACONDA stars Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, and John Voight doing an absolutely bonkers Paraguayan accent that I am totally here for. The film was originally billed as a horror thriller, but has since become more of a comedy horror with bad special effects and foolish characters. It’s a guilty pleasure that is ripe for a comedy about idiots wanting to recreate the movie. ANACONDA 2025 doesn’t quite capitalize on its cleverly funny premise, but is smart enough to lean on its stars Jack Black, Paul Rudd, and Steve Zahn to slither its way across the finish line.
Official Synopsis:
Doug (Jack Black) and Griff (Paul Rudd) have been best friends since they were kids, and have always dreamed of remaking their all-time favorite movie: the cinematic “classic” Anaconda. When a midlife crisis pushes them to finally go for it, they head deep into the Amazon to start filming. But things get real when an actual giant anaconda appears, turning their comically chaotic movie set into a deadly situation. The movie they’re dying to make? It might just get them killed…
As previously stated, Black, Rudd, and Zahn are destined to be a comedy trio. It’s a shame that the film doesn’t reach its maximum potential, but it’s still funny enough for the whole family to enjoy. Plus there are some juicy nuggets to anyone familiar with the 1997 version. Thankiwe Newton holds her own as well, especially as the only non-comedic actor in the group. Director Tom Gormican (THE UNBEARABLE WEIGHT OF MASSIVE TALENT) doesn’t quite push the comedy enough to match the actors energy, but is wise enough to keep the film at 1 hour and 39 minute run time, which keeps the laughs per minute ratio healthy enough to make ANACONDA 2025 worth recommending.
