Ellen, the ultimate selfie and the ten most interesting moments from the 86th Academy Awards
3. Ellen – Many were pretty disappointed when Ellen DeGeneres was announced as Oscar host. But I for one was pleasantly surprised by her antics. While she was definitely a safe host, Ellen managed a few edgier jabs, ending her opening monologue with the funniest line of the night, “Possibility number one: 12 YEARS A SLAVE could win best picture. Possibility number two: You’re all racist.” Yes, her pizza bit was a little long in the tooth but making these rich stars pony up some cash to pay for it, classic.
2. Winning – I truly loved the films nominated, but my 3 favorites did fantastic! GRAVITY won 7 including Best Director for Alfonzo Cuaron, Spike Jonze won Best Original Screenplay for HER, and 12 YEARS A SLAVE took home 3 including Best Picture. Even THE GREAT GATSBY, a film I thought to be a lot of glitzy fun, managed a couple of wins.

1. The Ultimate Selfie – Ellen put the night in the record books by literally breaking Twitter. The social media system briefly shut down when Ellen did an impromptu group selfie. The photo was actually quite good taken by the lengthy arms of Bradley Cooper. Two things to take away from the star-studded selfie: 1. Afterwards, Meryl Streep excitedly proclaimed that she’s never tweeted before. 2. Best Supporting Actress winner Lupita Nyong’o’s brother Peter, a sophomore in college managed a prominent spot among the A-lsit crew even blocking Angelina Jolie’s face. Well played sir. Kevin Spacey’s photo bomb in the back is pretty great too.
