Ten Most Anticipated Summer Movies for 2014
3. FRANK MILLER’S SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL – It’s been nearly ten years since Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez teamed up for SIN CITY, which happened to be one of the most visually tantalizing and inventive story-telling films I’d ever seen. Hopefully the two can create the same magic as they bring the graphic novel to the big screen for the sequel. They’ve gathered another impressive cast that includes, Josh Brolin, Eva Green, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Bruce Willis, and Mickey Rourke. (August 22).

2. 22 JUMP STREET – 21 JUMP STREET may have been the biggest surprise of 2012, resulting in one of the funniest comedies in years. I for one, am overly excited to see what the unusual dynamic comedy duo of Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum will come up with next as their self-aware and self-deprecating movie follows their crazy characters undercover in college. (June 13)

1. X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST – I know earlier I implied I was tired of superhero movies but I can make an exception for the X-Men world (as long as they stay together). X2: X-MEN UNITED and X-MEN: FIRST CLASS are among my favorite superhero films of all time. Bryan Singer is back directing an X-Men movie that combines the casts from the new and old. James McAvoy and Patrick Stewart as Professor X and Michael Fassbender and Ian McKellen as Magneto, what’s not to love? (May 23)
Jury’s Still Out: DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES – I’m a big fan of the original Charlton Heston version of PLANET OF THE APES. While I like the idea of an origins story, I couldn’t fully invest in 2011’s RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES. The one thing that has me somewhat curios about the new one – Gary Oldman. That guy never ceases to impress and always chooses interesting work. (July 11)
Least Anticipated – I can’t quite pinpoint why I’ve become so bored and uninspired, but I have zero interest in seeing THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 (May 2) and TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION (June 27).
