After this summer’s CRAZY, STUPID, LOVE, I think most people were sold on Ryan Gosling. But after watching DRIVE, I officially jumped on the Nicolas Winding Refn and Ryan Gosling bandwagon. From that movie forward, I’ll watch anything either of them do. And them together? Well, I’d buy my tickets now if I could. One film that’s had both the director and actor attached to for a while is the remake of the 1976 film about a futuristic world where a man that’s hired to track people down for living past 30 ends up on the run when his time comes up.
There wasn’t anything special about the original, but with Refn and Gosling attached to the remake, it has suddenly become something to keep an eye on. The original draft of the script was written by Alex Garland, but now it looks like Andrew Baldwin will take a crack at it. Baldwin (no relation to Alec) wrote the script to THE OUTSIDER, which is in development. No word on when shooting will start, but both Gosling and Refn have their plates full.
