For those that don’t know, Effie Gray was the woman that artist/poet John Ruskin was obsessed with, but when he finally married her (when she was 17), he was so repulsed on their wedding night that they never actually consummated their marriage and she remained a virgin until their eventual divorce and her marriage to Ruskin’s protege John Everett Millais. The mystery is that no one knows what it was that disgusted him so. All of this will make its way into the film UNTOUCHED with Keira Knightley playing Effie Gray. And I’m not going to speculate here as to what turned Ruskin off, but it would have to be something unmentionable to make me not want to “consummate” my relationship with Keira Knightley.
The film will be written by Aleksandra Crapanzano and directed by Andrucha Waddington (HOUSE OF SAND). If this sounds familiar, then it’s probably because there’s a similar movie being made called EFFIE that stars Dakota Fanning and Emma Thompson.
