It was only a matter of time before they made a movie about Bethany Hamilton. You may remember her, she was the young, teenage surfer who had her arm bitten off by a shark and went back into the water. It’s really a great inspirational story and I am looking forward to it. They have the cute, upcoming actress AnnaSophia Robb playing Bethany with Helen Hunt and Dennis Quaid playing her parents. The trailer is pretty tame and doesn’t show anything we really want to see (as in a shark) but I suppose it is uplifting and you can’t go scaring your audience off too soon. After all, this is a story about overcoming obstacles, not making people afraid to go into the water in the first place.
SOUL SURFER hits theaters April 15th, 2011 and also stars: Carrie Underwood (in her first feature film), Kevin Sorbo (yay Hercules!) and Craig T. Nelson.
